"I am From"

Jake came home today with lots of "stuff" from school. The teachers are sending home all the work the children have saved up throughout the year. Much of the paperwork ends up in the recycling bin (I had to learn long ago to save the "works of art" and the "original masterpieces", but part with the worksheets and busywork).
When sorting thru the MOUNDS of papers, we came across "a masterpiece, work of art". It is in the form of an original poem written by Jacob Louis Schmoll (age 10 1/2). The assignment was to write a poem to answer the question.... "Where am I from?".

"I am From"
I am from quiet, rushing wind
from Oreos and and milk
I am from the dark gloomy basement
big beds and small couches; warm brownies.
I am from the Oak tree, dandelions, long creek
the Walnut tree, elephant ears, three acre woods
crinkling fall leaves
I am from the big family and light hair
from Rowdy and Michelle
I am from the tall family and quiet talking.
From "don't live in the past" and "we are always here".
I am from the true light
good deeds, love and caring to friends.
I'm from Missouri and Germany,
from sweet potatoes and gooey butter cookies
From 10 White Castle burgers for 1 nickel;
Grandpa eating them on the church steps
The constant joking of Uncle Keith.
in Mom's scrapbook pictures of everyone
having Christmas in Tennessee
jewelry from G.G. to remember her FOREVER.
Jake Schmoll 2010
Jake. Your poem made me cry.
You made your dad cry.
You made Emily cry.
I have a feeling you will make your grandpa and grandma cry,
and your Uncle Keith laugh.
Thank you. You touched my heart.
I love you.
Mom
