This is our blog. A journal for us to share our daily lives with the people that we love and who love us. Enjoy the silly, sappy and usually unpredictable tales that make us say.....It's a Schmoll world.

' Let's Play a Game"

(Posted by Picasa
We are a game family.

We love to play games.

We play games all the time.

We have had Thirteen snow days.
I have not left the house in 7 days.
It snowed again last night, and is snowing NOW.

This closet has seen a lot of action lately.
We have played many, many of these games.

Some we have played multiple times.
Some of the games are as old as my kids.

Some are new and we have to read the directions, because we have not played them enough to know the rules.

We love games.
(not video games)

Old fashioned games.

Ones with cards and dice and little colored pawns.
Ones with sand timers and spinners.

We love games.

"Anyone want to play?"
(if you don't see a game you want to play...we have more.
There are 4 more shelves that did not fit in the photo...
I am sure we can find something that looks like fun!)

Ice Skating

Emily had one birthday wish this year. She wanted to go ice skating and wanted to bring her friend Libby. This was a pretty easy wish to grant. We just had to wait until the weather cooperated, and Libby could come . We finally got to go over the weekend.
We started our evening off with a good dinner at O'Charlies. (we tried to go to Texas RoadHouse, but the wait was 1 1/2 hours...so we walked next door to O'Charlies).
Off to the skating rink.
Rowdy is a good skater. Once upon a time he played ice hockey on a police hockey league.
Jake and Emily are pretty good too.
Jake learned how to skate backwards... he practiced a lot. By then end of the session...he was able to skate backwards. He really caught on to the "wiggle" necessary to move yourself . I think he really had a god time.
Emily was really good at ice skating. She has not skated since last year at this time...but you would not know it.
And then there is Libby.
Libby has never been on ice skates. But...like Libby...she was a natural. She took to the ice like she has been skating for years. Emily and Libby skated non-stop for the entire session. I only witnessed 1 major wipe out (by Emily).... and as soon as Libby stopped laughing... she helped Emily to her feet.
I was in charge of holding coats, and taking photos. I am way too smart to put myself on skates. Once upon a time, many years and many pounds ago, I could ice skate....but I am not willing to risk broken bones....or worse.
I think we all had a good time. I think we will have to visit the ice rink again very soon.

Basketball has Begun

Jake in game 1

Jake in Game 2

Jake in game 3
Jake in Game 3

Jake has been playing basketball again this year. He really likes to play.
The league he plays on rates the kids on the team and pairs them up against their opponent, according to skill level. They play a man-on-man game as opposed to a zone.

Jake plays hard and is good , both offensively and defensively.....
BUT.... notice in each of the photos. Jake is ALWAYS paired up against a
MUCH MUCH taller opponent.
I am proud of Jake because I know he gets discouraged when EVERY shot he takes is so easily blocked. He never gives up, and his persistence pays off.

Keep up the good work Jake. We love to watch you play.
